“Art is not about creating a Masterpiece. It is about expressing yourself, it is a way of Living.”

Philosophy

Generally, people who paint, who draw, sketch are known as Artists. But then, people who acts are also known as Artists, people who dance, sing, perform are known as Artists, even people who create or build or construct are often considered as the Artists.

So, I always wondered about the use of these words, Art and Artists, to distinguish the people and their work from the others. Then, I learned and realized that Art is not just a job that people perform to earn money or to become famous or anything like that. Art is a way of communication, a way to express yourself, a way to present your thoughts, your emotions, it is a way of living. And the people who do so are known as the Artists. I think this realization is what made and still makes me do what I do and I love what I do.

Biography

My name is Kanhaiya Sharma and I am a Miniature Artist. I come from a hard working middle class family living in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India.

From a very small age I was attracted towards this concept, this phenomena of Art. I mean there was not any particular major event or any life changing incident which made me or we can say drive me to become an artist. I learned to use a paint brush before I learned how to ride a bicycle. Painting and sculpturing was my child hood hobby which later on, as time went by transformed into a habit, then became my passion and now - a career. And frankly, what would be the better thing to do than to do what you love and get paid in return.

What I Do

Basically, I am into Miniature Art from last 40 years.
As I've said previously, I grew up in a small city of Rajasthan, India. And those of you who know the culture and art forms of India might pretty well know that Rajasthan is famous and full miniature art and sculpturing. So naturally, from very early stage of my life I was attracted into this form of Art.

Miniature Art is also known as the Fine Art. It is a specialty art, but many misunderstand it as a novelty art form. It has been considered an major form of art since the ancient times, in the major civilizations across the globe.

For example the Palace of Udaipur, The Mehrangarh Palace of Jodhpur, The Hawa Mahal in Jaipur, etc. are full of brilliant and everlasting pieces of art based on miniature form. The more common examples of this art form can be seen on the walls of each and every temple, church or mosque in India and all around the world.

Well, those walls are not in any sense miniature here, but the small-minute-detailed encryptions and engravings, the writing, the small designs, etc are the examples of the works of miniature artists.

It requires extremely patient and detailed work, often includes exquisite and vibrant colours. What I like most about Miniature Art is that it has the strength and composition which can more than compete with any other form of art. To me it's a unique form of Art.

Creating a miniature art usually takes long span of time. It is almost or in some cases takes often longer time to produce as compared to the other large piece of art.

Many artists can work on large scale, but only a few have the discipline and skill to work miniature.

The art is so sophisticated that many techniques such as hatching, stippling and pointillism are sometimes performed under magnification.

When it comes to Miniature Art, there is no such thing as the best, more correct, or most accurate technique.

Whatever may be the technique used, the end result is always the combination of flawless and meticulously handled workmanship.
